Report of Consultation on Peoples Manifesto at Silchar

So far we have seen that the political parties of the country prepare their manifesto before elections and place it before people and on that basis we elect our representatives. But from this year a new process has been started by a forum named Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA) and it has taken an initiative to “let people define our national priorities” that is, the general people will prepare such manifesto comprising of their demands and place it before the political parties and will go for election on the basis of their commitments to work for the fulfillment of these demands. Voters of Silchar prepare their own manifesto

Voters of Silchar constituency gathered today at Madhya Sahar Sanskritik Samiti Hall and prepared their own manifesto for upcoming parliamentary election. For this purpose a civil society consultation was organized by Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (BHRPC) in collaboration with Wada Na Todo Abhiyan, a national forum of about 3000 civil society groups. Through the day-long discussion that started at about 11 am a list of 40 demands were prepared as people’s manifesto. (Read more)

Survivors of TOV felicitated as a part of therapeutic intervention at Silchar, Assam

On the International Human Rights Day on 10 December, 2011 Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (BHRPC) conducted a programme to felicitate the survivors of torture and organized violence (TOV) at Banga Bhawan, Silchar (Assam) as a part of the therapeutic intervention. The felicitation programme was a joint event with a public discussion on the human rights situation in Barak valley and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights conducted to observe the International Human Rights Day. 14 survivors were ceremonially honored by the eminent persons of the valley. The event was chaired by Mr. Manindra Sankar Gupta, chairperson of BHRPC. (Read more)

BHRPC observed the world human rights day in a unique way  

Barak Human Rights Protection Committee (BHRPC observed the world human rights day on 10 December, 2011 in Silchar, Assam in a new way by felicitating survivors of human rights violations and reading out their testimonies in public. There was also a public discussion on the situation of human rights in Barak valley seen in lights with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Eminent public intellectuals of Silchar took part in the discussion along with senior members of BHRPC. (Read more)
